Ciao Everyone!

    Those who study these things report that the average American
    consumes more than 8729 calories at their Thanksgiving feast.
    And everyone knows where all those calories go.  For those of
    you who have been bad, there is hope.  Dust off your bike.  Your
    road to recovery from our national day of gluttony is paved with
    a health & fitness bicycle tour from Irvine to San Diego.
  Here's the Plan...
  • Make your hotel reservations for Friday, November 25 at the Best Western
    by calling 619-233-7500.  To get the special $89 rate, be sure to mention
    that you are with the "Turkey Burner" group.
  • Your hotel is centrally located.  You'll find lots of excellent, reasonably
    priced restaurants within walking distance.  Choices include restaurants in
    town, at the harbor, Little Italy and the Gas Lamp District.
  • Route slips will be provided for both days prior to departure. Friday's
    route is 86 miles. Want a shorter route?  Customize your own route and
    distance.  Take the Metrolink commuter train south to Laguna Niguel, SJC,
    San Clemente or Oceanside and begin your tour form there.
  • The Turkey Burner is unsupported and departs from the Irvine
    Transportation Center at 0730 or 7:30 am.  An early start is required to
    make sure you arrive before sunset.  Luggage transfers to the hotel will be
    provided.  Space in the transfer van is limited. Please take only a small
    "overnighter" as luggage and a blanket to protect your bike for its return
    home on the bus.  Van loads in the FLYAWAY lot 1 block East of the
    station.
  • Two incredibly scenic bicycle rides are offered: Irvine to San Diego on
    Friday, and on Saturday, you'll tour beautiful San Diego Bay via the Silver
    Strand and finish-up with a ferry ride back to the mainland.
  • Lunch on the ride is on your own.  There are lots of restaurant choices  
    along the way.  Make sure you eat and drink lots of fluid.  Happy hour
    begins at 1700 at the hotel.  BYOB to share; then join friends for dinner.
  • Tour concludes.  After Saturday's ride return to the hotel, clean up, eat
    lunch, load your bike in the bus's cargo bay and depart for home at 1400.
  • Rain cancels the tour.  Your hotel reservation cancels and your registration
    fee will be refunded if the tour aborts.
The Promise...
  • The terrain for both rides is mostly flat. The weather is always great.
    Expect a tailwind while you're in the saddle and smooth sailing while
    underway on the ferry.  Remember, a picture ID is required to enter Camp
    Pendleton.
  • The Best Western Hotel is really nice.  Singles & double-doubles are $89.  
  • Your room rate at the Best Western includes a complimentary hot
    breakfast buffet, high speed Internet, fridge, a balcony overlooking
    something and the comforting sounds of Amtrak on the move.
  • Return home on the TiJuana "Chicken Bus."  There's room for your
    livestock in the overhead bin and your bike in the cargo bay.

    Your $35 registration fee includes:
    Luggage transfer to the hotel
    Luxury coach return to Irvine for you, your chicken & your bike
    Rental van, fuel & parking expense

    The ubiquitous signed "Waver & Release" is required to participate.

    The Disabled American Veteran's Trust (DAV)
    To pass through Camp Pendleton, the Marine Corp is requesting a
    minimum donation of $10 per person.  Make your on line contribution to

  A Final Word
    The "2011 Turkey Burner" is designed to be a not-for-profit... fun bicycle
    ride with friends. Your registration fee is a real world estimate of
    anticipated expenses.  Should there be fewer than 20 rooms sold at the
    Best Western Bayside Inn or less than 32 riders returning on the bus, the
    event will go red and the tour will be canceled.

    This document could affect your rights. Please read, sign and return it with your $35
    registration fee to Richard Sheff, 10 Harborcrest, Irvine, CA 92604.

    I, the undersigned, understand that every effort will be made to make this event as safe as
    possible.  I know that bicycling can be dangerous. I participate in this event with full
    knowledge and acceptance of all the risks and assume full responsibility for my own safety.
      
    I agree to hold harmless everyone associated with the “Turkey Burner” bicycle tour, held this
    November 25 & 26, 2011, its agents and assigns, from any and all liability, claim or action
    from, or arising in any way out of, my participation in this event.

    A helmet is required to participate on all the bicycle rides.
